Finding a trusted eye doctor is the first
and most important step in achieving successful vision correction.

I am Dr. Yong-jae Lee, Chief Ophthalmologist at EYE Plus Eye Clinic.
For many years, I focused on writing and sharing knowledge about vision correction.
But writing about myself feels different—and honestly, a bit unfamiliar.
I opened EYE Plus in Gangnam in December 2009.
Since then, I have spent over 25 years in ophthalmology,
continuing on the same path with one goal in mind:
To become a doctor who is trusted—not just recognized.

In my early years as a doctor,
I wanted to be known as someone who performs many surgeries,
and someone with strong technical skills.
So I pursued experience relentlessly—
from foundational ophthalmic knowledge to complex surgical techniques.
Over time, as those experiences accumulated,
there were even moments when international doctors visited our clinic
to observe and learn our surgical systems and techniques.
They would ask detailed questions—
about laser settings, surgical judgment, and the fine techniques used during procedures.
Those moments reminded me that surgery is not just about equipment,
but about the experience and precision behind it.

Looking back on my career,
I realize that what I have built is not something achieved overnight.
It is the result of consistent effort,
and a commitment to doing what is right for each patient.
When I first started,
I did not think deeply about what kind of doctor I would be remembered as.
I was simply focused on getting through each day of clinical work.
But now, after many years,
I find myself hoping to be remembered in a different way:
As a doctor patients can truly trust.

That is why I often tell my patients:
“Don’t worry.”
“You can trust me.”
And when patients say things like:
“I chose surgery because I trusted you.”
“Someone I know recommended you.”
“I came after reading your reviews.”
I feel a deep sense of responsibility—and gratitude.

There was one patient I still remember clearly.
She had undergone LASEK surgery at our clinic 8 years ago,
and later returned with her husband and child.
She told me:
“My experience was so good that I wanted my husband to come to you as well.”
Hearing that, I was reminded that
trust is built over time—not in a single moment.

Even for my own family,
I personally performed my son’s vision correction surgery.
As a parent, I felt concern.
But as a doctor, I trusted our system, our standards, and my own experience.
Because what we provide to every patient—
our equipment, our surgical planning, and our process—
is exactly the same standard I would apply to my own family.

Trust is not created in a day.
And the words,
“Doctor, I can see clearly now thanks to you,”
still feel just as meaningful to me today as they did at the beginning.
I will continue to do my best
to return that trust with safe and meaningful results.
