Pre-Operative Guidelines
Preparing for a Successful Surgery
- Contact Lens Cessation: Soft contact lenses should be discontinued several days before surgery, while hard lenses may require a longer discontinuation period.
- Avoid Eye Makeup and Perfume on Surgery Day: Makeup, perfume, and lotions may interfere with laser equipment and the surgical environment and should be avoided.
- No Self-Driving on the Day of Surgery: Vision may be temporarily blurred after the procedure, so patients should arrange transportation in advance.
- Adequate Rest Before Surgery: Getting enough sleep helps stabilize the tear film and overall eye condition before the procedure.

Both SMILE LASIK and traditional LASIK allow most patients to return to daily activities the day after surgery.
However, SMILE LASIK generally offers greater freedom during early recovery, while LASIK may require a few days of caution until the corneal flap stabilizes.
Because SMILE LASIK uses a small 2mm micro-incision without creating a flap, patients generally experience greater freedom in daily activities during recovery. This can be particularly convenient for international patients with limited travel schedules.
